Critique My Blog...please?

I'm taking part in a blog hop that is a little bit different...it's not really about 'writing', it's about our blogs. Everyone listed below is interested in getting their blog critiqued.

While I know my blog is new, I'd still like to get some input. The blog hop should bring some new readers and hopefully some input.

Here are some areas to look at and ccritique. Feel free to pick one or more or come up with your own.
  • Appearance: Does it appeal to you? Is it too busy, or too plain?
  • Layout: Is it difficult to navigate? Is it cluttered, or sparse?
Frequency: Does the blogger post too often? Not often enough?
  • Content: Are the posts interesting? Unique? Are they focused, or all over the place?
I won't be replying or commenting until I get back from the cruise on 2/11, but feel free to chime in and THANK YOU!!

  1. Hello! I'm new to your blog from the critique blogfest, and I'm happy to meet you! I clicked "refresh" several times on your blog, but the text is impossible to read: light gray on top of a wood grain background. I don't know if it's just my computer, or the way your blog is set up, but I could not read it.

  2. Margo, it's supposed to load a "book" on top of the woodgrain so the text would be on white. It's a template, still trying to figure out how to change the text color (grrrrr). For some reason it overrides anything I put into Bloggers advanced template area. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you use adblock, maybe the book image is blocked? Not sure...thanks though!

  3. I saw the book image without any problem. It looks really good. It appears simple and elegant. I love your writing.

Is it possible to be able to view more than two previous posts at a time?

The twitter box in the far right column looks a little ugle in comparison to the rest of the layout. Could you possibly change the colour of the text?

I love the bottom bar with options for more information. It's clear and separated from the rest of your writing. Have you got too many categories to fit in the box?

Keep writing, I'm looking forward to reading more.

  4. Hey Donna, I see someone else has addressed the text color subject and see your reply. I like the overall look, but hope you can change the text color as it is a wee difficult to read. I might also suggest a different/larger font . . . for those of us with sometimes weary middle-aged eyes. :) Thanks for asking for feedback. Interesting idea!

  5. Okay, while here at the hotel I've managed to change font size and color, change the labels at the end of the page but had to shorten other posts to two due to font size change, changed the link color in the Twitter box (might change it again) and changed the size of the blog description as well. Oh, and increased the posts to 5 per page. More later...I really appreciate the input from everyone!

  6. Love this theme, I've even used it myself once! It's so cool right? Have fun on your cruise!

  7. Your list of Works In Progress could be links to other blog pages that have either excerpts or summaries of your books. You could use that to practice the art of writing pitches and synopses.

  8. I think it looks great. The only think I would nitpick is where the button is to comment. I read the post but have to scroll back up to the top of the post to click for comments unless I missed a link on the bottom of the post. Really it is just a preference and in no way detracts from your blog. I read a few posts and will be featuring one in my Sunday Social. On Sundays I send people to neat blogs & posts I liked during the week. Thanks for the tip on RSSOwl. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

  9. Heya - I'm here to critique your blog! I really like the look of it. I don't often see the "3 panel" style where the main panel is to one side. It looks kinda nice. I like the colour scheme, it's easy on the eyes.

I tend to agree with Junebug above, that I find it confusing generally when a blog has comments listed at the top. I've noted it on a few blogs, not just yours. I will say also that the font of your blog post title isn't the easiest to read. I can read it, but it takes a bit of extra concentration. :)

All in all, your blog looks really nice. I can't really comment on the content as I'm new to your blog :)

  10. i like the book layout and picture. your choice of colors, comments, etc are your personality, and as long as they arent glaring, i'm good! i like the natural tones =)

    two things,
    1) you are a mystery! we want to see and know who you are. a bio at the top is good. and followers need a place to follow?
    2) with so little in your side bar, it takes away from the post. if there is a way to thin the side, that would help

    hope you're enjoying your cruise!

  11. I’m getting the same wood grain background...I like the title of your blog and that you have a statement right at the top that says what you are about. I like that you have a blog archive and have made available more than 1 option for following you (I hate it when e-mail is the only option available to follow a blog). Since the background refuses to load properly, I’m unable to read your posts so I can’t really give you much feedback on your content.
