Random Act Of Kindness BLITZ!

A smile. An encouraging word. A thoughtful gesture. Each day people interact with us, help, and make our day a bit brighter and full. This is especially true in the Writing Community.

Take a second to think about writers you know, like the critique partner who works with you to improve your manuscript. The writing friend who listens, supports and keeps you strong when times are tough. The author who generously offers council, advice and inspiration when asked.

So many people take the time to make us feel special, don't they? They comment on our blogs, re-tweet our posts, chat with us on forums and wish us Happy Birthday on Facebook.

To commemorate the release of their book The Emotion Thesaurus, Becca and Angela at The Bookshelf Muse are hosting a TITANIC Random Act Of Kindness BLITZ. And because I think KINDNESS is contagious, I'm participating too!

For my RAOK, I have chosen Betty Barnes. I first met Betty when she started following my personal blog. She and her husband are working RVers so while they live full-time in an RV, they don't travel as much as we do.

When Betty read my post about the A-Z Challenge, she decided to join in. After posting a few entries, she realized that 1) she enjoyed writing and 2) she might actually tackle writing her memoir, something friends had been telling her to do for some time.

My ROAK for Betty is the offer to be an Alpha reader or critique partner for her book. I hope you'll stop by and leave a comment on her new blog, "Journeys with the Muse".

In a side note, I'd like to point out a fun read - free - written by my friend, DC Stultz: "Old Fart's Journal". He has a wild sense of humor and has done some interesting things in his many years on earth. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! He also participated in the A-Z Challenge, please leave him some comments and encourage him to continue blogging!

Do you know someone special that you'd like to randomly acknowledge? Don't be shy--come join us and celebrate! Send them an email, give them a shout out, or show your appreciation in another way. Kindness makes the world go round. :)

Becca and Angela have a special RAOK gift waiting for you as well, so hop on over to The Bookshelf Muse to pick it up.

Have you ever participated in or been the recipient of a Random Act Of Kindness?  Let me know in the comments!

  2. "Gracie Wilde" at the In Search of a Title blog wrote a lovely post about me after the A-Z challenge and I came across it and it made me feel so good. She didn't tell me she'd written it, so it was a very nice surprise.

Catherine, thanks for the download. (And, yes, I really did ride my pig backwards around the show ring!) LOL

  4. Donna,

Wow! As is said in Scotland, I am gobsmacked! I am honored and humbled. Thank you for your friendship, support and encouragement. Guess I'd better tweak my priorities and move writing up in the ranks!

    Cheers,
    Betty

  11. I try to sprinkle random acts of kindness hither and yon as I live my life! :) Lots of little ones received have included retweets, supportive tweets, blog comments, etc. From you and your tribe in fact. Most recent HUGE one was when an online friend chose to be my miracle and paid conference fees and lodging for me to go to the Blissdom Conference in February!

  12. I missed RAOK and am just catching up on some of the posts I forwarded without reading. How could I! Also just read DC's AtoZ. A great read. Thanks for directing me there.

  13. I love the idea of random acts of kindness and even once started a blog where I posted about random acts of kindness I noticed happening or that happened to me. However, I think it's a great idea to focus on writerly random acts of kindness!

  14. @Beth Giving produces unexpected returns, doesn't it!

@Lynne There is just too much to read. I have to skim a lot. Today it's the flash flood blog...LOL!

@City You're more than welcome but I can't take credit, that was the book authors, Angela & Becca.

    @Donna Thanks!!

@moonduster I agree! Just added you to my Twitter list as well as one of your MANY blogs to my reader.

  15. What a fabulous RAOK, especially for someone who's starting a scary project. Encouragers are so vital at that stage, at least they were for me. Yay kindness!

  16. Very nice RAOK! I have been helping a friend out who has recently dove into writing, and I must say that giving her my eyes for grammar, mechanics, and critiques has actually been a blessing for me. I get to read some great stuff, and she just keeps encouraging me to quit procrastinating and write. Thank you for the link to "The Old Fart's Journal" - I think I will share it with my grandfather (who is starting to write his memoirs, so maybe it will encourage him to keep going). And good luck to you Betty! You can do this, especially with this helpful lady!
