Alex J. Cavanaugh's Genre Favorites Fest

Alex J. Cavanaugh's Genre Favorites Blogfest!

One blogfest, four favorites!
List your favorite genre of:
Movie
Music
Books
And a guilty pleasure genre from any of the three categories!

My favorite movies of late are Action flicks, especially when a little good comedy is mixed in.

The last movie I saw to meet this criteria was The Expendables 2.

Love all the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon movies - oldies but goldies to me.

For music, I'd have to say that Blues top my list followed by Classic Rock. Yup, I'm a product of the 50-60's for sure. John Lee Hooker and Etta James are two favorites.

That's not to say my musical taste isn't eclectic - check out Seven Nations and Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

Books? We're in trouble here. I love to read - thriller, mystery, romance, time travel, fantasy, science fiction. So many books, so many authors, so little time to read. Tolkein, Heinlein, Clarke, James Patterson, Alan Jacobson, Toby W. Neal, Linda S. Prather, Nick Russell

So my guilty pleasure? Reading for escapism not for literature. Call me a trash reader? Maybe, maybe not. It's what I enjoy. I've read classics when younger but prefer today's books, lots of punch, no need to spend hours figuring out the author's motivation. [giggle] Just keeping it real...for me.

  1. I understand your difficulty in picking a favorite book genre. Books rule! I also enjoy the Lethal Weapon and Die Hard movies. According to many people I've talked to, Die Hard is one of the best Christmas movies of all time. Hey, it takes place during Christmas, so it counts!

  3. I saw "Expendables 2" and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yeah, the old heroes are "elderly" but th sarcasm and humor aside from the action made the movie a classic for the next generation (if they can understand it).

  7. So glad you joined in on the blogfest. I'm enjoying reading everyone's responses. It's made me further believe that I like so many genres (it was hard making choices!). I'm pretty much into anything Bruce Willis, so I enjoyed your movie choices!

  10. Hey, I found another me. Or maybe another us since I've found a couple of us on this blogfest. Action movies (okay, I listed Romantic Comedies first but Action was my runner-up), 50's and 60's music, mystery/suspense in the books... hmmm, different guilty pleasures (I chose animated kids' movies) but both escapism. Hi, Donna. Nice to meet you.

  12. I am late hopping around- but it was great to see your answers! I like to read a classic every now and then- but like you just prefer reading for the pleasure of reading. :) I also love the blues. :)

  13. Even though fantasy is my first love, I also read a lot of mystery and thriller types. Mix a little science into it and I'm hooked.
