H - Headache

Happy The letter H, for some reason it took a while for a word to pop into my head. But that was rectified when I experienced an "optical migraine" (also know as Retinal migraine, Migraine with aura, Ophthalmic migraine, Optic migraine)

Mine are typically aura only but in the last 6 months I started to get a light headache afterwards. They last 15-20 minutes and I can't read or work on the computer once they start. I have a kaleidoscope zig-zag pattern (in both eyes), that eventually makes a complete circle and then goes away.

They are very common and usually harmless. I remember getting my first one. I was driving from St. Petersburg, FL where I lived to Atlanta, GA to be with my pregnant daughter. It happened while I was driving and scared me deeply.

Since then I have seen an ophthalmologist annually and there is nothing to be concerned about (always check with a specialist if you start these unexpectedly).

  2. Oh, interesting. Headaches are caused by many things. I've had a terrible sinus headache today. Blah.

  5. So that's what I've been getting once in a while. I thought I was overdoing it with the computer. I'm glad I came by today.

Since I've moved to the South, I've had a lot more headaches, but I think it's allergies. I tell my students I'm allergic to two things: fall and spring. :-)

I have not heard about these but they sound terrifying. Thank you for the "heads" up.

  8. I wish they could tell us what causes them. I used to have 2-3 a year, now I'm having more than that a month. Argh!

  10. At least they're not as bad as a traditional migraine. Ugh!
