1) I chose 26 words but they are Spanish words.
2) Each of the 26 words has an English translation that starts with the same letter.
3) I searched for free-to-use-commerically photos for inspiration.
Sounds good, right? Well, I hit a few stumbling blocks. First, there is no letter W in the Spanish alphabet. Okay, I can get around that because they do use a few words that begin with W, but they are foreign words.
Next, some letters I ended up with multiple words to chose from and planned to use the photo inspirations to guide me. I made a good start using my standard photo sites, Morguefile.com and Pixabay.com. But I couldn't find something for every letter.
That was where LIFE hit me in the face...and nothing more has been done. Since then I have found a couple of other good sites to use for photo searches and next week will make my final choices. I also may use MORE than one word in each story.
UPDATE: Thanks to unsplash.com/ and gratisography.com I have all my photos. If you need good photo resource sites, check out THIS ARTICLE.
So the theme is FLASH FICTION inspired by a word and photograph, story written in 300 words or less (no minimum). Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

why don't you let us know what words are lacking photos and maybe some of us can help find some, or contribute of our own?
ReplyDeleteWhen I reviewed my notes, I only had four words left to go...so got them done and updated the article. Thank you!
DeleteThis sounds like fun, Froggi! Looking forward to participating. WooooHoooo!
ReplyDeleteI hope I have as much fun as I did in 2012...and have time visit some of the other blogs. I've talked three other folks into doing this...LOL!
DeleteThat is a great theme for you. Reminds me of the Write4Ten stories I wrote. I revealed my theme today...The A-Z's of Lodgepole Creek. That is the town my novel is set in. I'm so glad you invited me to participate in this. I have all my images done, and words chosen. I still have almost all the writing to do. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteStill have to make my blog rounds...perfect theme for you!! I may do that next year with my Klondike Mystery series. Great idea!
DeleteI've been making custom headers for each of my A-Z posts, so I feel your pain about searching for free-to-use photos! Morguefile is one of my favorites, and I also use Flickr. If you go into Flickr's advanced search, you can tell it to filter results based on the Creative Commons licensing. Hopefully that will help you find a few more!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rebekah. I found a couple more places to look and updated the article. So nice to finally find multiple sources of good photos! Okay, off to check your blog!!
DeleteSounds like a great theme. I'm worried that I'm going to either get burned out or go too long on some posts. Hopefully, we'll both make it through April :-)
ReplyDeleteGoing too long can be a real issue...with so many folks signing up it's hard to keep up. That's one reason I used a word limit with my flash fiction. Keeps me in line.
DeleteAs to burning out, start writing and scheduling now. I usually start at least two weeks ahead of time and am now a week behind. EEEK! ;)
Flash fiction with a twist ... I'm in! :D
ReplyDeleteAwesome, hope you enjoy it!
DeleteSounds like a god way to find out about some new fiction - I'll be keeping an eye on your posts.
ReplyDeleteGreat...and I on yours!
DeleteI'm impressed with how much work you have put into it so far. Great idea with the A to Z flash. I wanted to do that with my last years themed stories. I need to get on that. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI am so unprepared compared to 2012...still have written NOTHING and have to run errands all day toay. Eeek! I will get it done, I will get it done....LOL!
DeleteWow... you have a lot of things going together in the theme. Looking forward to read your stories and in the process learn a few spanish words too! All the best :)

Thanks for stopping by...I hope the stories flow as easily as they did in 2012. Got a week left to get started. Gulp!
DeleteLoving the Spanish idea!! The post to the photo is absolutely fantastic, yes? It sure has helped me out! I'm lucky that I have several friends who take fantastic photographs and have given me creative liberty with them. *whew*
ReplyDeleteCarrie~Anne at That Dizzy Chick
I was really surprised how much I get influenced by photos, I use them for my novels, too. I love being able to see a photo of my characters and locations. Thanks for stopping by Carrie-Anne!
DeleteI love my flash fiction!
ReplyDeleteYour theme looks like it's gonna be loads of fun!
