#FridayFictioneers: I won't....

This story is in response to the photo prompt at Rochelle's Friday Fictioneers.

Look at them down there.

So self important.

Scurrying around like rats in a maze.

No eye contact.

Not really living.

I could take them out one at a time.

Hundreds before they could stop me.

But I won't. Really, I won't.

I've thought about it.

But why?

No satisfaction.

No joy.

I'll just take out one.

The real reason I'm here.

I'll take out ME.

I'm sad today. The news is full of suicides. People we know, people we don't know, people who have internal demons we can't understand. Please, if you are feeling like there is no other way out, call the suicide hotline in your country

  1. Such a sad state to have reached, the feeling that no one cares and nothing matters. Well written.

    1. There seems to be a rash of suicides lately, not just celebrities but family of friends. Anthony Bourdain's seemed to put me in the mood for what I wrote. Thanks for reading.

    1. Thank you, Keith. I was in that kind of mood yesterday...so very sad. There seems to be a rash of suicides lately, not just celebrities but family of friends. Anthony Bourdain's seemed to top it for me.

  7. Dear Donna,

I've often thought that these nut cases that take out crowds of innocent people before turning the gun on themselves would do better to skip the crowd. Well done.

  9. So very sad, both the desperation to end one's life, and the numbness that leads to fantasies of mass murder. Well written.

  10. I've always wondered about people who commit mass murder then kill themselves. Not that I condone suicide, but why take so many with you? Thanks for a thought provoking story. Alicia

    1. Like you, I've often wondered. I've never understood the mass killings but have had experience with suicide in my family and in several friends as well. So sad...

  11. I have never been in that dark place, but some of my clients have, and it's cold and lonely there. You've portrayed it well.

    1. Fortunately, I haven't either but I've had family in that space. Not pretty...thank you.

  12. I was close for a period. I'm so glad I didn't, because now I'm happy, and also because I now understand that suicide doesn't end the pain - it just shifts it onto other people.

    1. Wonderful news that you are in a better place. I lost my mother to suicide and yes, it does leave behind a lot of pain. I have three friends without sons because of it. So very, very sad. Hugs!!!
