There is a drinking game called "Never Have I Ever". I've never played it but it made me start thinking about some of the things I've never done, things that it often seems like everyone else has. So I thought I'd list a few and see what things are on YOUR never done list.
I've never...
- ...attended a high school football game.
- ...eaten snails. (ugh!)
- ...been a first adopter of new fashion fads.
- ...driven a car over ninety mph. (We won't mention my motorcycle though.)
- ...willingly eaten anything tasting of black licorice.
- ...experienced a tornado (only a warning).
- ...changed a flat tire.
- ...liked the taste of whiskey, bourbon or most liquors. (Vodka & spiced rum only.)
- ...driven somewhere on the spur of the moment. (I'm a planner at heart.)
- ...visited Europe or really wanted to (other than Scotland/Ireland).
- ...eaten liver and onions since I became an adult.
- ...ordered chocolate cake! (Not even Carnival's famous chocolate melting cake.)
- ...gone to an ugly Christmas sweater party.
- ...willing swam under water. (No snorkeling, either.)
- ...gone (or wanted to go) water skiing, parasailing, bungee jumping or the like.
- ...visited the Empire State building.
- ...participated in an on-line challenge (like eating Tide Pods, or dancing beside a moving car).
- ...played Spin the Bottle.
- ...lost anything to fire, hurricane or other natural disaster. (Blessed!)
- ...worn stilletos! (Nor will I ever...)
What are some of the things it feels like "everyone else" does but you haven't?
I was a teenager in the 60s and I never smoked pot!! Now I live in Oregon where it's legal and I still have never smoked pot lol!!
ReplyDeleteI never smoked pot until my 20's - and never since. Now I'm allergic to smoke so even if it were legal, I don't think I'd be smoking it. LOL!
DeleteI have actually done most of those things. Love escargo! Even though I swim very poorly, I have water skied.Drove over 100 mph in France and on the back of a motorcycle in the US. Went to the empire state bldg in 1957 on a high school senior trip. Lost some trees and privacy fencing to a tornado in Largo a few years ago.(was on the very edge; it went down the other side of the street) Damnit Donna, go to France and eat snails!
ReplyDeleteDon't have to go to France for escargot, I can order it on the cruise ships like Stu does. It's a texture thing...I don't eat oysters or mussels either and clams have to be fried. Afraid France isn't in the cards - it's low on the priority list. LOL!
DeleteBeen to the Empire State, and even the Twin Towers in NYC shortly after they opened to the public. Have eaten escargot and even calamari! Never have been on a cruise, although I've been on smaller boats (tour of Loch Ness, etc.). Never had the urge to skydive, bungee jump, zip line, go on a cruise, etc. Have 2 tattoos and have been to Scotland and England. Does the airport in Amsterdam count? Ha! Donna - get thee to Scotland and, while you're there, try haggis! Very rich and is an acquired taste, but very nice in small amounts. :)
ReplyDeleteI worked on Wall Street back in the day and had a great view of the Empire State Building, just never visited. I love good calamari but not doing the snails. Blech! Scotland is tops on our priority list!!
DeleteWe are very different people! I've done most of the things on your list, and now that I live outside the US, I don't think the Ugly Sweater thing will ever happen.
ReplyDeleteNever have I ever had a child (or wanted one).
Never have I ever joined the mile-high club, although I fly often enough, you'd think it would have happened by now.
I've been bungee jumping and parasailing, and although I don't prefer chocolate cake, I'm sure there has been at least one time that I ordered it. I tried snails on more than one occasion in China and did not like them, but when someone brought a big dish of smaller snails to our fireworks party last month, I LOVE them! They were smaller and spicier.
If I had grown up in a different era than the 50's, I might have been more adventurous. When Stu and I were traveling in South America, I told him I wished I had done the backpacking thing when I was younger and had waited to have kids. I had two by the time I was 21.
DeleteKeep it up - life is for the living!!
An interesting twist on lists. It's like the getting-to-know game of 2 truths and a lie. (You have to figure out which is the lie.) So for me, things most people have done -- I never went to prom (any year), never smoked pot (as someone else pointed out) nor a cigarette, and never got a tattoo. But I've been to 5 of 7 continents (not just Europe), eaten snails (and would again), and yes been to the Empire State Building and the Twin Towers observation deck... when it existed.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from MLSLT. Fun post!
Thanks for stopping by, Patricia. I had a lot of fun with this idea. I went to Junior & Senior proms and have several tattoos. LOL! I love seeing how we all differ and what folks thing about posting in this thread.
DeleteInteresting...mmmm I am thinking now. I have never: been drunk (alcohol bores me, smoked properly (sounds funny, I gave it a go, once...yuck), been overseas other than to Hawaii and West Coast USA, been adventurous (eldest child syndrome), played much sport, written a book (the blog will do for now...and that's about it. Thanks for sharing! Denyse #MLSTL
ReplyDeleteHey Denyse...how neat you've been to Hawaii! I've never been to Australia - it was on our bucket list but now, due to age & finances, it won't happen. Best we can hope for is Scotland. LOL!
DeleteI'm with Denyse in that I've never been drunk (alcoholic father turned me right off!) I've never really smoked (other than a couple of pathetic attempts in my late teens) I've never been to the US or Canada or Africa or South America, I've never changed a tyre or mown a lawn - and the list goes on! Great post and a fun one too :)
ReplyDelete#MLSTL x
Hi Leanne, thanks for stopping in. This was a fun thread and I love seeing what other think about. Glad you joined in!
DeleteI LOVE this journaling prompt! I like the idea of giving thought to what have I never done that I want to try (bucket list) and what do I never plan to do in my lifetime :) I plan to pin for future reference when I have more time to think and write!
ReplyDeleteYay, Molly! It was fun to think about what others sometimes take for granted (when we lived in Ecuador, it seemed like all the other expats had been to Europe, for example) or quirks (like me with no snails). LOL!
DeleteHi Donna, love this post idea as we usually concentrate on what we have done! It might take me some time to think about this one but for a start: I've never sky dived, smoked, changed a tyre (like Leanne) but I did mow the lawn once. Thanks for sharing at #MLSTL and hope your internet is back on soon.
ReplyDeleteSue from Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond
Glad I got you thinking....we helped mow the yard as kids (back when we thought it was fun) so can't count that one. The comments have been really fun!
DeleteThe Empire State Building stood out on your list for me - I've never visited it but now that my son lives in NY, I'm planning a trip this Fall. Definitely not interested in sky-diving though!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy NYC, it is a world unto itself. I enjoyed my work years there but I wouldn't want to be working there now. Funny how priorities change! Enjoy your visit and thanks for stopping by!
DeleteGreat list, Donna!
ReplyDeleteI've never experienced a tornado, lost anything in a fire or participated in the water sports that you have listed. You can mark me down for everything else!! :)
#MLSTL
Oh no! Losing everything in a fire is terrifying. I keep saying we need to videotape our house and "stuff" but it seems to always get pushed to the background. WRITING it on my To Do list now! Thanks for stopping by and playing along!
DeleteNever have I ever drank coffee, smoked cigarettes, got a tattoo, changed a tire, been to Australia... I'm sure there's more. Fun idea! Love reading other's comments.
ReplyDeleteNever drank coffee? Oh my! I guess it was easier for me because my father used to put some of his black coffee with lots of sugar into our milk. Sort of early iced coffee. Now I loved a Iced Cappuccino and coffee ice cream is my favorite. LOL!
DeleteThanks for joining in - funny how we can take things for granted, assuming everyone has done them.
Great list Donna! I'm not sure what to add to this game - maybe that I've never drunk coffee??? Plenty of tea but never coffee #mlstl
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I just replied to Janet just above you on the same topic. I do drink tea, but coffee is my go to drink. Thanks for stopping in!
DeleteThat was fun, Donna. You can learn as much for a "Never have I" list as a list of things a person has experienced. I'll play along. Never have I been to Disneyland or Disney World...raised a son...driven a stick shift. #MLSTL
ReplyDeleteYou just reminded me - I've never had a sister (blood or step) although I now have a host of women friends who are like sisters to me!
DeleteI learned to ride a stick shift at 16 and made sure all my girls knew how - that way they could always get home if their date couldn't drive. ;)
I've never been to Disneyland (hubby has, as a kid) but have been to WDW many times. I lived in Florida when it was being built...so I even remember before it was there! Thanks for dropping in!!
Oh, Donna! I love this post because I'm on the other end of the spectrum! I've spent my adult life living on the edge of most everything, being driven by the rush of adrenaline when I raced cars, scuba dived, dug illegally for Mayan ruins, interviewed and been stalked by Mexican drug lords. No one would have guessed this sickly, scrawny little girl who missed lots of school because I was sick would have turned into Ramborella. That said, I WILL NOT eat liver or licorice and thank you, God, haven't lost anything to fire, hurricane or other natural disasters. I found you via #MLSTL so hope to see more of you! Brenda
ReplyDeleteOh my - you've lived the life I would love to have lived (but my non-adventurous, risk-adverse personality would never have been brave enough to do). But we have one big thing in common - dislike of licorice. If I accidentally bite into a gum drop or jelly bean that's licorice, it gets spit out immediately. Blech!
DeleteIsn't it wonderful we all are different? Thanks for dropping by and commenting. Much appreciated!
I love reading what folks have and haven't done. I have done a lot of the things on your list. But I am sure there a numerous things you have done and I wouldn't think to do.
ReplyDeleteI may have to do a round two at some point...I know there are a lot of things I've missed. LOL! Thanks for taking time to read and comment!
