G - Golf #AtoZChallenge

My A to Z Challenge: Micro fiction, using 300 words or less, inspired by selected words along with a photo for inspiration. The words were chosen in reverse order from this lesson plan page.
(For example, for the letter A it was the 26th word on the list, for Z it was the 1st word on the list)

Economy of scale, that's what my father called it. His father called it, killing two birds with one stone. Me? I thought it was just weird. Who would want golfing at a cemetery? I mean, think about it. You'd hit your ball and then watch it fly over the course, all the time wondering who had been buried underneath. Then you'd walk over that same path, worrying if you were stepping on dead bodies. Nope, not my cup of tea.

When I inherited Clovenside CGC, I knew something had to change. Did I want to run a golf course? No. Did I want to run a cemetery? Um, double NO. This was going to take some thought.  A non-traditional graveyard, there were no markers or headstones. Just a written record in the "Big Book".

So where to start? I opened the Big Book and flipped to the last entry. Wow! I had no idea. No one had been buried here since my grandfather made the last entry in 1939. Maybe all I needed to do was change the name and run a big public relations campaign.

That was it! Clovenside would become Wacky Whack Paintball. Obstacles and hiding spots could be easily added to the current course configuration. I was a genius. I wrote my plan and started construction.

Opening day was approaching and I wanted to take one last walkabout. It was already dusk when I started but I'd brought a flashlight knowing it would be dark soon.

I was almost done when it started. A screaming sound. Like a wounded animal. I scanned the area with my flashlight but couldn't see anything except a fog bank moving across the field towards me. I scanned again as the sound grew louder...

The for sale sign appeared out front the next day.
