Bucket Lists - Part Three (Left To Do)

I first wrote about my bucket list in this post, Bucket Lists - Part One (Over 45) and continued it in Part Two (Over 60).

Do you have a bucket list? Do you want one? Should you have one? Is yours full, being filled, being emptied or empty?

I had one that I started in my mid-forties, one of the best times in my life. Recently I came across it and realized I no longer feel the need to keep at it. I've done so much more than many folks, been so blessed to be able to do them.

Yes, I've been blessed to do a lot in my life. Click to read my "after 45" list and the "after 60" list. But there is still more I'd like to accomplish. Here's my outstanding list (always somewhat set in Jell-o):

Hot Air Balloon Ride:
And not just any hot air balloon ride...this all goes back to a memory. My late husband and I were living in the Rochester, NY area (where he was born and raised). We were visiting Letchworth State Park, a beautiful park, especially in the fall. As we walked across an open area, a hot air balloon with several occupants dropped down and the people waved to us, just before rising again. So my wish is for a fall ride, over a scenic color-laden forest!

Attend Scottish Highland Games:
This is an ALMOST made it, several times. Maybe this fall - there is one just outside Nashville, or next spring at the one in Maryville (we bought tickets but didn't make it this year - bad timing).

Visit Scotland:
I mean, after all, Stu is Clan McNicol and from my paternal grandmother, I am Clan MacQuarrie. While we'd both love to visit Australia, Scotland is tops on the foreign countries left to visit list.

Lipizzaner Stallions:
I grew up in love with horses, all horses, anything about horses (future blog post on this). But I especially loved the Lipizzaner Stallions. Some day, I hope to see them perfomr live.

See the Cirque du Soleil performance: Cirque du Soleil is like nothing else. Stu and his late wife saw the production "O" and he raves about it. Just the little bit I have seen on television has only served to wet my appetite to see a show. I'm not picky about what show...LOL!

Take in a Broadway Show: My biggest regret was learning the show "Porgy and Bess" was having it's final performance on Broadway during a time when it would have been extremely difficult for us to get there (and probably already sold out). As a child, my aunt took me to Boston to see the movie. I was young, maybe twelve, and didn't understand the nuances but fell in love with the music and emotions. To this day, I can't hear "Summertime" without getting teary. But I digress, not sure what Broadway show it would be, but someday...

I'm sure more will be added to this list and some may drop off...what's left on your list? I know my years are numbered, by both physical and financial limits. So, what about you. Are you working towards doing/seeing/experiencing any of the items?

  2. This is a great list with a real selection of doable things! I haven’t got a list as such but just the other day I went on a zip wire adventure and so can turn that off!! I never thought I’d do it as I’m so scared of heights but I did it!! It’s great to have these ideas in our heads and hopefully one day get to do things that challenge us. #mlstl

  3. I like your list but I admit I have never made one. Maybe this is something forward planning I have not felt confident in doing. I like the process and the ideas...I am going to think more about this!! Denyse. #MLSTL

    1. Bucket lists aren't for everyone...especially impulsive folks. I am a planner by nature and I love lists. LOL! So, a perfect fit for me. ;-)

  4. Great list. I've been to Highland Games in California...loads of fun. I still haven't seen a Broadway show. That's high on my list.

  5. Hi, Donna - My husband and I keep our 'Travel Bucket List' on our fridge....along with a two year calendar and a pen. In our retirement, we have crossed off "Hike full Camino", "Visit friends and family in Singapore", "Watch son compete in PanAM Games and Boston Marathon". We still have Everett Base Camp, Machu Picchu, TransSiberian Railway and Nunavut left on our list!

  6. Donna you've got some great things on your bucket list. I've been to Scotland, but just Edinburgh for a few days. I'd love to go back but this time to the Highlands for walking and to visit where my ancestors came from. Shared on SM #MLSTL

  8. I have Scottish heritage too and would love to visit Scotland - it's a long way from Australia so it will be a retirement bucket list item for me - when I can take some time to do it well.

Thanks for linking up with us at #MLSTL and I've shared this on my SM xx

  9. Great list. Scotland is still my favourite place that I have ever visited. The trip was way too short (only 3 days) but it was so green, a green that I have never seen anywhere else. Stunning. I am hoping to make it back this summer.

    1. Oh my, three days definitely isn't enough. I hope we can spend at least two weeks although I would love a month there.

  10. I don't have a bucket list but have a number of things I want to do. Most have to do with travel Australia, Ireland and Scotland are on the to go list.

    1. Hope you get to visit them all - I've pared my list down a bit due to age and funds. But if those were not a factor, I'd be adding Australia back to our list! Ireland, too!

  11. Love your list! I'm also a planner (and a lover of lists). One on mine I hope to check off this year is to see the Northern Lights. I know it's always a risk... we did multiple trips before we saw whales (Alaska & Hawaii during the season they were supposed to be there, then Maine and Washington state... both when you're supposed to see them... and yes I finally did see a whale in its natural habitat..second trip to Maine...hubby got horribly sea sick....but I digress ). There are multiple possibility trips (Machu Picchu, Italy, Ireland), but hubby hates to travel so not sure if those will ever get on my must-do list. That said, there are other things on my bucket list that don't involve overseas travel and I'm focusing more attention on those these days.

Visiting from #MLSTL. BTW - And there's a seasonal bucket list link-up as well... I'm sure it will pop up on a MLSTL cross over as well...it has in the past which is where I found it. Your posts would be great add there.

    1. I forgot the Northern Lights!! That would be so amazing. I've seen the whales during our 14 day Alaska cruise and I've seen moose (which had been on my list for quite a while). Italy and Greece were once on my list but had to pare it down to a more realistic one. Now, if we had managed to pull off our cruise to Barcelona (trans-Atlantic) and then the Mediterranean cruise, I'd have Spain, Turkey, Italy, France and Greece ticked off. LOL!

I will have to watch for the seasonal bucket list - right now I can't even get the MLSTL page to come up so I can start visiting other sites. Grrr....

  12. Hi Donna, I've had a bucket list since I was 18, so forty years. I've done the hot air balloon ride, highland games, and visiting Scotland - all very worth doing :) I recently made a new list but I'm not sure how committed I truly feel to the items on my list. I'll have to take another look. And I'll need to add the Lipizzaner Stallions. I'd love to see them. #MLSTL

    1. That's the best thing about bucket lists - you can change them anytime. Hubby had skydiving on his and was really looking forward to it - until his orthopedic surgeon explained what a bad landing could do to his two knee replacements. Nope, off the list!

  13. I'd love to ride in a hot air balloon too! And Scotland, Yes! Clan Logan here. With a lot of Welsh lineage too, and a pinch of Irish, so I'd love to see all the countries.
Loved your post. Thinking about my own inner bucket list now.
