#MAYKINGITWORK: May 11, 2018

This is my first post in the #MAKINGITWORK blog challenge set out by newly acquired friend, thanks to the April A to Z blog challenge, I.L. Wolf. My goals for #MAYkingItWork are to get back to reading (and less writing) and to restart my yoga. I will post on Fridays as to how I am doing.

YOGA:
Started on Sunday, May 6th. Oh my! Talk about shaky legs. I did mat work first, then some standing, then back to mat. Maybe fifteen minutes total. Still need to find a good app I can follow. Tried the two I had. One wanted a pay subscription to download videos, the other hung on the second exercise and wouldn't go any further.

Day two, Monday. Oops! Pulled something in my back...Aleve is my friend as well as BB and Gadget. Spent the day babying the back, taking Tuesday off. Ugh!

Day three, Tuesday. No yoga today but tried to get in a couple of minutes on the elliptical. Okay, a few seconds...it's hard to work out when you can't breath. Small steps...build staying power. Phew!

Day four, Wednesday. Took it more slowly today. I have to learn to pace myself. Instead of doing yoga as soon as I got up, I did it mid-afternoon when I tend to get drowsy.

Day five, Thursday. Sticking with mid-afternoon and only doing five minutes.

Day six, Friday. Made it!!! Still not sure I can do it every day, but at least I didn't throw my back out again. Phew!

READING:
Um, does reading blogs count? I spent most of the week reading the last of the April A to Z blog posts on my blog reader list. Then it was time to read all the reflections posts. By Wednesday, I was almost done. Oh, and reading/commenting on new flash fiction prompt sites.

Yup, I'm doing more flash fiction here, on this blog. Hope everyone enjoys it!

    1. Thanks, April. This old body is fighting me, for sure! I hope to get four flash fiction stories written tonight and tomorrow morning, then I plan to read all weekend (hubby out of town). LOL!

  2. Awesome! I'm so impressed with your commitment! Given my own results this week, I'd say you're miles ahead and YES blogs count! I mean they're words, aren't they?!

I've heard there are good people on youtube. Two that were recommended on my yoga post: Yoga with Adriene or Yoga by Candace.

Nice work! I'm sorry you hurt yourself though.

    1. Yes, they are words, aren't they...LOL! I will check out Youtube...I rarely use it, not a big fan of videos, but in this case it might be just what I need. Thanks!

  3. Well done. I do yoga once a week and am in awe if you are doing it every day. I think reading blogs count.

    1. I wish I could do the yoga longer each day, but I learned my lesson that first day. Phew! When we lived in Ecuador, we did 45 minute and I walked 15 minutes to and from. All at 8400 feet in the middle of the Andes Mtns. Of course, I was four years younger. LOL!

  4. I've never tried yoga, but my kids did a version of it in P.E. However, they also did a version of the cha cha, which amounted to walking forward and backward while rolling your hands. So I'm taking all those yoga reports from my kids with a grain of salt.

    1. I had to laugh...I remember being taught the Foxtrot in elementary school. It was a box step...I never knew for many years. LOL!

  5. Hi Donna,

Excellent committment! good luck with the rest of the month and I hope your back feels better sooner. I started the year with a "7 minute workout" app - there is a yoga flavour (not to be confused with yoghurt flavour) set as well. I really enjoyed this and I could see improvement quite quickly, without it being too onerous. Need to get back into it.

    1. Here's to the rest of the month...I remember a 7 minute workout. Need to look that up for something different on the off days.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  6. AH! When I moved away from my old town with a gym that included yoga classes, I found the "Sworkit" app. No videos, but you pick the kind of exercise you want to do, set the time, and it gives you exercises. There are usually quick how-to videos available if needed.

I haven't used it in a long time. An update took it beyond the capacities of my old phone and I never re-installed it, so I hope it's still there.

Sworkit helped me develop a daily habit. I set it for 10 minutes of yoga and learned a basic sun salutation series that I still do now. Good luck!

    1. Hi Red, nice to meet you! I really need to find a way to have it become a habit. For the next month, it can't be first thing when I wake up. Hubby is traveling and I have the #2Doods to take care of when I wake up. It's like having two toddlers around...with teenager attitudes! LOL!
