#FFfAW - Time

This is my first entry in the weekly Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers challenge.

He was late again. She checked her watch for the hundredth time, tapping it to be sure it was running. She stared out the window, spying an approaching figure but as they got closer she realized it was an old man, not her lover.

The hour passed slowly and she knew she had to vacate the rented room. After all, they always paid by the hour and she had already used up two hours waiting.

She gathered her things and stuffed them in her elegant tapestry covered tote bag. She took one last look out the window but there was still no sign.

Once outside, a lady stepped in front of her, blocking her path. "He's not coming. Not this time. Not ever."

She cocked her head in question.

The knife flashed before her as the woman told her, "I killed him. No one cheats with my husband."

The contents of tote bag spilled on the cobblestone and soaked up the blood spilling from her body.

  6. Her time had come. You built up the tension well but nothing prepared me for the brutal ending. Well done.
