#AccountaClub: Sep 28, 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

Another week gone...how did that happen? I lost my weekend too quickly. LOL!
  1. Get the RV cleaned, sorted and prepped for the snowbird season.
I have now tried on all the clothes in the RV (other than underwear, which, yes, I need to go through since I am down a size in that, too). I finally tried on all the shirts I brought in from the RV. 1/4 went to hubby (they are mens L which he wears now, down from an XL), 1/4 went to the giveaway pile. The rest I resorted with the ones in the house, making a pile to go back out to the RV. Pant sorting next but I'm tired today. Hoping to move some of the dress clothes to the RV, but only enough for our cruise. The rest will stay in the house. Oh, almost forgot,  have to sort shoes! Then, finally, I will be able to start cleaning...well, if hubby has gotten the dryer out of my way.

  2. Write, edit and publish (ebook only) book four in my C'Mon Inn Mystery Trilogy, "Paradise Dream".
This was a week for research and plotting. I defined two new characters and found some photos for my vision board. I have to have visuals for all my characters. I won't get to start writing until after the first week of October though...

  3. Exercise.
Well, um, err - does printing out exercise sheets count? Sigh...my mornings just never seem to get organized to include exercise.
I don't expect any progress on any of these next week. Why? We're going to Dollywood, just the two of us. Four days will go missing...but we won't be missing any fun!

See you next Friday!

#AccountaClub: Sep 21, 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

Hey, I'm on time this week!
  1. Get the RV cleaned, sorted and prepped for the snowbird season.
Well, I did get all my clothes (except underclothes) moved into the house and sorted out on the guest bed. I have tried on and sorted through all the pants and sorted out the shirts/blouses I don't care for. Now I have to try on all the other tops and see what doesn't fit or I don't like the way it fits. At that point, cleaning the RV will start but hubby has to get the dryer put back into it's slot. Our washer will stay out until next spring when we will get it fixed somewhere. Sucks that it's fairly new and still not working. Ugh!

  2. Write, edit and publish (ebook only) book four in my C'Mon Inn Mystery Trilogy, "Paradise Dream".
Did more plotting and even posted a blog with some early photos of what I envision the Thompson twin sisters to have looked like. I started out to work on my notes in Outline but realized I needed to change the name of the notebooks since it's no longer related to the Kindle World. I followed their instructions and now I can't open the new notebook. Eeek! So waiting for support to get back to me, hopefully with good news that it is recoverable.

UPDATE: Still waiting to hear back but I did recover the section by naming it back to what it was. Now while I wait to hear from support, I will slowly copy over the pages. One downside to this great software is the lack of ability to move pages/sections to another notebook.

  3. Exercise.
Well, I printed out more instructions on exercises to fight the dreaded hunched shoulder. Mine is getting worse and I suspect both it and my lower back worsening are due to my sitting in the living room working on my laptop. I love that because I can raise the footstool and keep my legs elevated as well as watch a  little tv (at least have it in the background). But I may have to give it up...well, until we are in the RV in the winter. Then the sofa is the only place I have to sit and work.
See you next Friday!

#AccountaClub: Sep 14 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

Eeek! It's Saturday night and I haven't posted this yet. Gulp...sorry! LOL!
  1. Get the RV cleaned, sorted and prepped for the snowbird season.
Well, I started by cleaning out my closet as well as my cruise/dress clothes in the guest room closet. The best pants in size 14 went in a drawer, just in case. I did clean out three piles of clothes that I 1) don't care for, 2) know I will never wear, or 3) just don't fit and on the small side. This purge has continued through today, Saturday.

  2. Write, edit and publish (ebook only) book four in my C'Mon Inn Mystery Trilogy, "Paradise Dream".
Did a lot of plotting this week....I think I have the general gist of where the story will start and end.

  3. Exercise.
Well, I did ask hubby to show me how to use the Blue-ray so I can start trying my Body Groove exercise. I also did a couple of minutes on our elliptical. Hey, it's a start!
See you next Friday!

#Accountaclub: Sep 7, 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

Eeek! It's Friday already....I am so behind in things, be it blog writing or blog reading. My favorite bloggers posts for 2-3 weeks are still unread. I will catch up - maybe - someday!

Although I've been exceptionally busy, I admit my goal attainment is at an all-time low. Next week won't be any better. It's birthday week for me!!
  1. Get the RV cleaned, sorted and prepped for the snowbird season.
Ummm, well, I sorted out purses in the house closet and put six up for sale in local ads. Does that count?
  2. Write, edit and publish (ebook only) book four in my C'Mon Inn Mystery Trilogy, "Paradise Dream".
I'm still working on notes, but it's always on the top of my head. Honest!
See you next Friday!

#AccountaClub: Aug 31, 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

Busy, busy, busy....lots done, lots more to do!

1) Support hubby's Backend of Nowhere Garage project in any way I can.
The project continues despite several setbacks. Phew!

2) Write, edit and publish (ebook only) book four in my C'Mon Inn Mystery Trilogy, "Paradise Dream".
I did set up a Scrivener project and made a few plot idea notes.

3) In addition, I have three blogs that have asked me to write guest posts.
Working frantically on the second post,  should have it done in the next couple of days. The third is the easiest and will quickly follow.

August is gone and fall will soon here here. Time to set goals for September.
  1. Get the RV cleaned, sorted and prepped for the snowbird season.
Time to slowly work on getting the RV ready for winter and our "move" to southern Georgia in early to mid November. Sorting clothes is a big thing as well as other "stuff" that needs to get cleaned out.

  2. Write, edit and publish (ebook only) book four in my C'Mon Inn Mystery Trilogy, "Paradise Dream".
I need to start writing the fourth in my C'Mon Inn Mystery Series. This one will be titled Paradise Dream and will tell us some of the backstory for the Thompson Twins as well. Oh, and there may be a wedding involved!

See you next Friday!

#AccountaClub: Aug 24, 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

I almost missed this today...still doing catchup from a week of having 10 & 12 your old grandgirls visiting. LOL!

1) Support hubby's project in any way I can.
The project is still on-going and will be for at least another two months. Our goal is to get it closed in for the winter. We were hoping to get concrete, too, but not sure that's going to happen until next spring. I'm the reminder gal - helping to keep things on track.

2) Finish the rewrite of my former Kindle World books, get new covers and republish them. I also plan on combining the three into a box set as well as a print version.
This is DONE!!! All of it...here are the links:

Paradise Down - book one
Paradise Dead - book two
Paradise Drift - book three
C'Mon Inn Trilogy - ebook
C'Mon Inn Trilogy - print

I love the new cover for the trilogy - what do you think?
I have also started to make notes for the next book Paradise Dream which will give the Thompson Twins (sisters) some backstory as to how they ended up in Hawaii, owning the C'Mon Inn B&B. Finishing this book will now be goal #2, replacing this one.

3) In addition, I have three blogs that have asked me to write guest posts.
One guest post is done, one is partly written (although I'm not happy with it so may start from scratch). Here's the published guest post #1.

Another week down...see you next Friday!

#Accountaclub: Aug 10, 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

I missed/skipped last week....sorry!

1) Support hubby's project in any way I can.
Well, the contractors came and went and we have a pavilion. Check it out at the Backend of Nowhere Garage blog. I've sent out an email plea for help from family & friends, we'll see how that goes.

2) Finish the rewrite of my former Kindle World books, get new covers and republish them. I also plan on combining the three into a box set as well as a print version.
This is getting there. The covers are done and the first edit of the three are complete. I need to do one more run through, figure out a marketing strategy and hopefully get them published before we have a week of grandkids visiting.

3) In addition, I have three blogs that have asked me to write guest posts.
One down and two to go! I plan to get the other two done by the end of this weekend. Phew!

Two of our young grandgirls are coming to stay with us for a week, the 15th to the 22nd. I will be busy all week so will be skipping next week's post.

Another week down...see you next Friday in two weeks!

#AccountaClub: July 27, 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

1) Support hubby's project in any way I can.
Well, things are moving along. Still waiting for the material delivery which has to come before they schedule the construction. Hoping next week!! I helped him blog updates (I edit & add photos).

2) Finish the rewrite of my former Kindle World books, get new covers and republish them. I also plan on combining the three into a box set as well as a print version.
This week has been way too busy - nothing started. Argh....great intentions though. Next week isn't looking much better but will try.

3) In addition, I have three blogs that have asked me to write guest posts.
I have one post written, just need to edit it and get it sent off. Then on to the other two!

Another week down...see you next Friday!

#AccountaClub: July 20 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

1) Support hubby's project in any way I can.
Well, I did help him pull the trencher he rented out of a ditch. My job was to be on the lawn tractor, keeping the chain taut. Of course, I'd NEVER been on a lawn tractor before. If I have my way, I never will be again. LOL! We're still waiting for news from the construction company. Initially they said mid-July but we haven't heard any more.

2) Finish the rewrite of my former Kindle World books, get new covers and republish them. I also plan on combining the three into a box set as well as a print version.
The book covers are done! Now to get my butt in gear and start the editing. Seems like every time I wanted to start this week, something came up. Sigh...

3) In addition, I have three blogs that have asked me to write guest posts.
I have one post started, hoping to finish in the next couple of days.

We kind of lost Sunday, hubby decided to wake me at 1am for an ER visit. All is okay, but by the time he came home, the day was shot. Monday was movie and errand day. Such is the life of retirees, I guess. LOL!

Another week down...see you next Friday!

#AccountaClub: July 13, 2018

Reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

1) Support hubby's project in any way I can.
Not much going on this week other than encouraging him to work on his floor plans and getting more quotes for finishing pieces. He did a lot of work on that as well as planning the French drain system he is installing. Hey, I didn't even complain when he was gone for hours, buying materials. LOL!

2) Finish the rewrite of my former Kindle World books, get new covers and republish them. I also plan on combining the three into a box set as well as a print version.
I have my new book covers! That is a big step. I also have the new names for my characters. Now to start editing the books, that's on next week's agenda.

3) In addition, I have two or three blogs that have asked me to write guest posts.
I had hoped to write at least one guest post but it's been a busy week. Monday was errand day while the #2Doods went to doggy camp and then had a bath and mini-groom. Tuesday was vet day. Yeah, it's a big ordeal to cart two 60+# dogs to the vet - at the same time. Got a bit of bad news, the younger, who just turned one, has severe hip dysplasia. Had to order a ramp for him to get in and out of our car, no jumping in his future. Wednesday was good-off day. Had no energy or motivation. Thursday, catching back up on emails & blogs that I didn't read/write all week.

Another week down...see you next Friday! (Join in the fun, sign up at Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub page or post in her or my comments.)

#AccountaClub: July 6 2018

Well, it's my first Friday "officially" reporting in for Isa-Lee Wolf's #AccountaClub. Each Friday we post an accountability update for our current projects/goals/whatever.

As stated previously, July/August are going to be very busy months for us. We are having built/building a huge pole barn for a garage for hubby. You can follow along as we prep the property, get the initial structure built, and then close it in before he furnishes it to play with cars. {snicker} Backend of Nowhere Garage

So what are my projects/goals for this summer?

1) First is to support hubby's project in any way I can.

2) Second is to finish the rewrite of my former Kindle World books, get new covers and republish them. I also plan on combining the three into a box set as well as a print version.

3) In addition, I have two or three blogs that have asked me to write guest posts.

Check in next Friday for an update!

Old News & New News

Just a short update - really no new news. Sorry! Due to my impending eye surgery, I haven't been writing or editing.  Yes, I'm falling way behind but once July hits and both eyes are healed, I will be able to really tackle my backlog.

Here's my current WIP list, in order of projected completion and publication:

  • Paradise Dead, novella two in my Lei Crime Kindle World trilogy - writing first draft
  • 7 Days of Seven, compilation of middle grade fantasy stories - final edits
  • Almost a Touch, book three in my Klondike - starting edits

My goal is to have all the above live on Amazon by early fall. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Once these are done, I will be tackling the third Lei Crime Kindle World novella, Paradise Drift, which I hope to have out by early November.

At that point it will be holiday season as well as the time of year when we move our rolling home from our house in TN to our RV lot in Florida. At that point, I will be deciding if I will continue writing (other than my blogs) for publication. So I guess that's the new news, I may retire from writing after this year. Not definite, but under consideration.

#IWSG: My first year back as a fiction writer

IWSG

I am closing in on my first year of fiction writing. I had set no goals for the year and wasn't sure how much actual writing I would do. Looking back, I consider it a fairly productive year.

I wrote and eventually published as compilations, sixty flash fictions. These ranged from micro-stories to contest entries to five sentence fictions and the A-Z Challenge in April. "A to Z in 10 by 10", "A Flash of Fantasy" and "Ten Tales of Five".

I had one piece of flash fiction published in a print book, an anthology. "I am Woman: Vol I"

I won second place in a fantasy blog hop with another piece of flash fiction.

I wrote and published two short stories, "Lost and Found" and "Tagged".

I participated in my first ever NaNoWriMo challenges - Camp NaNo in August and NaNo in November. I won both events and was fortunate to be able to complete the books and publish them at both Amazon and Smashwords. "Home Again": Amazon  Smashwords   and   "Not a Whisper": Amazon  Smashwords

What does this all have to do with my monthly Insecure Writer's Support Group post? Well, now I wonder if I can continue at this pace or if I need to slow down. Since August I have had to slow down on all my social media sites (Twitter, LinkedIn, Triberr, Goodreads, Pinterest, Facebook and more). That's not good since marketing is important to the success of my books. If people don't hear about them, they can't buy them.

I also have quit reading books. I've found that I can't read when I am writing and have a hard time devoting time to writing if I'm reading. Strange...

I do have plans for several more books. I have a romance trilogy that is barely started and two more mysteries for my Klondike series.

Then factor in the many (too many) blogs I maintain, travel time, vacation time (going on a 7 day cruise next week), motorcycle time (SUPER important), hubby time, etc.

I thought I was retired and would have so much free time. What happened?

Too much time - oops, too LITTLE time

This is how I feel lately (thank you to Candilynn Fite for the photo idea). Factor in getting sick which has left me with a limited energy level and not much writing has gotten done. Had one good day, 2k words written but need another 10-12k to finish the first draft.

Sooooo, going to set some goals for myself. Maybe that will keep me on track. After doing Camp NaNoWriMo, I know I can write 2k words a day if I spend 4-5 hours on it (last minute research always seems to figure in). So, hear are my September goals - yes, I know there isn't much time left in the month. LOL!
  1. Commit to writing 1k words daily at least 5 days a week (total of 5k per week).
I should be able to easily do this, just by not opening up my big laptop where I get sucked into emails, blog reading, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  2. I will blog twice a week in this blog, continue M-F blog prompts in Write4Ten and once a week minimum in my personal blog, 2 Taking a 5th.
This also should be easy to do, toughest part is figuring out what to blog about!
  3. I will read a three chapters a week in my new Scrivener for Dummies book.
This one will be a bit harder since I usually read tech manuals as I need to learn a function. but I'm determined to learn to use Scrivener's advanced capabilities. (Mac, Windows)
  4. I will spend 30 minutes daily doing some type of exercise.
Again, very doable regardless of weather with my Leslie Sansone Walking DVD.
  5. I will read a chapter of my current read every night.
I've been forgoing reading, hardest thing will be to limit myself to one chapter.
  6. I will do my best to write at least one flash fiction piece a week.
I know my readers at Write 4 Ten have been waiting patiently for me to resume there...and after all, it's only ten minutes. Then there is the Visual Dare and Five Sentence Fiction challenges. Eeep!
So what priorities are eating up your time? How do you handle it? Do setting goals help?

Monday Mumblings: Excerpt from "Not a Whisper"

Here's a scene excerpt from my WIP, "Not a Whisper". This is a cozy mystery set in rural north central Pennsylvania.

Please note, this is a first draft version...unedited!

After placing their dinner orders, Cherie turned back to Jazz. "Thanks so much for taking me to see the new Madagascar movie. I've been wanting to see it, I giggle every time I hear Chris Rock doing the 'afro-circus, afro, polka dot, polka dot, polka dot afro'."

Jazz smiled at Cherie, "You did more than giggle during the movie, I swear you were prancing in your seat."

"Well, it is infectious. I couldn't help it," Cherie giggled back. She looked around the restaurant, "This place suits you." She thought to herself, tall, dark and handsome, oh, and beefy. She couldn't help but smile, thinking how this date rivaled anything she and Bradley had done. Oh-oh, don't think about Bradley she told herself, working to keep a smile on her face.

"I love that the town has managed to combine such history and current business." Looking at the historic interior, she remarked, "Such a beautiful building, I imagine twenty years ago no one ever thought the former library would become a restaurant and lounge. Beefeater, what a perfect name, it matches the feeling in here." She leaned on her elbows and stared at the high arched windows. "Can't you just feel the history here. So different than the history in Tucson."

"This is one of my favorite places to eat here in Bradford so I'm glad you like it. Oh, and I enjoyed the movie, too. It was nice to let loose and laugh. Things have been a bit too serious here lately." Jazz took a sip of his drink.

Cherie thought about the past week and agreed. "Absolutely. So, not to bring things down, but have there been any new developments that you can talk about? I'll keep it off the record if necessary, I'm just curious as to how things are going."

"Not much, we're still conducting interviews. Alan, Jim and I went to see Owen Harper last night. He's a cool one. We're not done with him yet. Alan and I are getting closer to the final determination on the origin of the fire. I'm waiting on a few reports to come back." He paused and took another sip of his drink. "I guess the biggest news is they found a body last night."

"Oh no, where? Is it anyone you know?" Cherie thought quickly, "Was it Corey Tanner? Aunt Pansy will be devastated if it is."

Jazz reached out to take her hand, "The body was found in the water at Kinzua Dam but no identification has been made. Yes, there is a possibility that it could be Corey Tanner. We hope to know more in a couple of days. Cherie, this is NOT public information and I ask that you please keep it to yourself. You can't even tell your aunt about the body."

Cherie nodded, "I understand. I appreciate your trust."

The waiter brought their dinner and any meaningful conversation paused while they ate, only murmuring about how good the food was. Once their plates were cleared and they had ordered after dinner drinks, they resumed. Jazz started, "So, do you want to talk about Buttley from Tucson?"

"It's Bradley and no, I really don't want to talk about him. He's my ex-fiance and an idiot. I don't know why he's here but I guess I'll find out tomorrow."

"Would you like me to be there? I'd be happy to." Jazz reached for her hand again.

"Thank you, Jazz. I can't tell you how much that means to me, but I suspect Aunt Pansy has called in reinforcements for support. I won't be facing him alone."

"Good, I'd hate to think I'd have to come and arrest him for harassment. Of course, if he does harass you..." He let that thought remain. Before either could speak again, his phone beeped a text message. "Sorry, this is my work phone." He glanced down and read the text. "We've got to go. There's been a bad crash on 770 going up to Klondike. The driver was Diana Crocker." He stood and motioned for the check.

"Janie's daughter? Oh no. I'll go get my coat while you pay." In less then five minutes they were on their way up the hill, siren blasting.

Day Late, Many Dollars Short for my #IWSG post

Oops, completely missed the Wednesday Insecure Writers Support Group post. I'm busy at an RV Rally with friends, old and new. Haven't written anything, managed to read a few blog posts and check into Facebook once or twice a day. Not much else.

So what am I insecure about this month? That's easy. I just finished Camp NaNoWriMo and my 50k words in a month. My novel isn't done, maybe another 10-15k words to go. When I started on August first, I had a twenty-year old dead body, a location setting and a couple of roughed out characters. I've always been a detailed planner but I pantsed it 99% on this one.....and had a blast!

My insecurity comes in with what comes next. The edit. All I've published prior to this have been flash fiction and short stories. Easy to edit and proof-read. I'll have about 40 chapters and 60-65k words to plow through this time. I wish I had the money for a professional editor but going to have to rely on friends for this first book.

My other fear is whether anyone will enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it. I'm not a complex writer. I don't write "literature". I read for escapism and I write for the same. You won't have to hunt for hidden meanings in my words, just the right suspect (at least in this mystery).

Oh well, time will tell....I'll just keep on writing, because I HAVE to!

#Write4Ten Prompt: Solitude

I've been writing my Write 4 Ten stories in the actual prompt but now that my online time is sporadic and limited, I will be posting them here...when I have ten minutes to spare.

This is for yesterday's prompt of  "Solitude" and is a short scene out of my upcoming mystery novel, "Not a Whisper".

Kat heard the front screen door slam and a deep voice boomed out. “Hey Kat, get yer butt out here.”

She sighed, the last thing she needed was a confrontation with Hal Lockworth today. Wiping her hands she walked to the doorway to the dining room, “What can I do for you, Hal?”

He leaned towards her, “You know what I want. When you gonna sell this white elephant and make yourself a tidy profit?” He leaned close enough that she smelled the whiskey on his breath. “I know you’re late on your mortgage payment - again. Sell now and walk away with cash in your pocket or sit it out and I’ll get it anyway.”

[source]
Stunned, Kat spun and ran back into the kitchen, holding back the tears. “Pompous asshole,” she muttered, but she was worried. Hal wasn't going to stop till she sold to him or got out from under the mortgage. She couldn't tell her husband Erik about the threats since he never wanted her to buy the Kafe in the first place.

There was no one she could talk to. She was friends with the locals but no one she could confide in, no one with a shoulder she could lean on. Besides, the locals already knew too much about her personal life; having the police visit your house on a regular basis took care of that.

Pouring herself a cup of coffee, she sat at an empty table and closed her eyes. Take me away to my happy place, she thought. A little island in the South Pacific, that would be perfect. A deserted beach, a comfortable chair, warm sunshine and a soft breeze. Perfect.

Insecure Writer's Support Group - June Post

Where did the last month go? I swore when April was done and my flash fiction for the April A to Z Competition was complete, that I'd work on my romance WIP, A Montana Chance. Guess what...I spent ONE DAY on it, yesterday! Eeek! I did get some clean-up done, more research and organization as well as 900 words written. But come on, I wanted to get this done by the end of July so I could concentrate on my mystery WIP, Not a Whisper.

So my Insecure Writers Support Group whine is about needing to better prioritize my time. I have to really start out writing as soon as I get on the computer, otherwise I get lost in a world of blog posts, emails, Facebook, Triberr, HootSuite, Pinterest, GoodReads, Amazon stats, etc.

I have signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo for August, my impetus to spit out the first draft of Not a Whisper. I still have to plot it out a bit as well as flesh out my characters. Plus I lose almost ten days while we travel from Delaware to Tennessee and also attend the CMA Music Fest.

Oh well, it will all get done....eventually. I have had some great grandbaby time as well as Twinkie time (twin step-granddaughters that graduated this year). That's important, too!
